Hi there,

After havin my defender stolen  I have purchased another but in the mean time got hold of a nice disco auto 300 tdi. Current Defender has 200 tdi fitted already on an 88 will this be an easy conversion?
Also was gonna fit disco axles & transfer box also but would this be a big advantage? Easy enough to fit?

All comments or advice gratefull as have little experience with Land Rovers

Hi Martin

It has been done before and is something I have thought about but the tranny box in a disco is slightly different from a defender tranny box and to fit the disco tranny box into a defender you need to chop the chassis about to make the disco tranny box to fit which is a shame as I think it would be a great conversion as I used to love my auto disco :)

Have you got a defender (90 or 110 with coil suspension) or a series 88 or 109 with leafs ?
Fitting a disco 300tdi with auto into a defender is simple job , same as axles , and transfer box. The tgb is a bit high geared if used with 750r16 or similar size etc . as its a 1.2 , if you do a lot of motorway its OK , or dont tow much heavy . HTSH

The disco drivetrain will just bolt straight in apart from needing to put suitable engine mounts onto the 90 chassis to suit the 300tdi . The front prop will fit the disco rear prop wont , and the rear diff in the disco will most likely not have the correct flange for a defender prop. Is the 300tdi auto edc , if it is it will be a bit tricky to get it to work in a defnder if you are not A1 on electrics. Most people just fit a mech 300tdi FIP . HTSH
