my standard Disco towbar (original LR) is loose, and its the 2 bolts that go through the mounting plate/bracket up into the box section behind the bumper.
Now my idea was to remove bumper and tighten up the bolts, but ive been told today the nuts inside the box section are welded on, so if they are loose, which they are, i would need to re-weld them.

Is this right???

Also, does anyone have a towbar fitted that doesnt use these 2 bolts into the box section? If its easier to buy a new towbar and fit that straight onto chassis it might be a more permanent solution, as i dont fance trusting my caravan on the back with 2 re-welded nuts.

help?

welded , rewelded whats the difference?
can you not drill straight thro and put two longer bolts on??

just been out and looked at mine. mine has the bolts into the box section but the bolts go right the way with the nut on top hope this helps i would say yours was the same.

try to slide your hand under the bumper on to the top of the box section you should feel them on top

Is that a guess, or were you able to get at yours???

If i can feel them i can tighten them without the bumper coming off.

Its getting access into the centre of the box section that looks the problem.

i can get my hand in just i would say you might get a spanner in but might have to lift up your bumper

dunno know then...i usually just makle me own bars and bolt them on to a strong part of the car.

So i can get at the nuts from the top of the bumper?

I will get a spanner in if i can get at them, but i just couldnt see how to get at them without taking the bumper off.

i can just get at mine but its not easy might be worth while slackening off the bumper to give it abit more
movement
