Hi I went through some water yesterday not deep and when I got home and was parking my steering was going stiff and there was a noise coming from pump it is OK when driving its just when you come to park or at a stand still I thought the belt might have got wet and was slipping a bit but it is still doing it today I was just wondering if anyone else has had this or nows what it could be thanks Lee

Ye the fluid is perfect but when I look at the pump pully and someone steers it there is a noise from pully and it does look like the belt skips on the pully when you are driving it its perfect you wouldn't no there was a problem its just when you are at a stand still I was wondering if some water got on there and has caused the belt to stretch a bit it only happened yesterday when I went through that bit of water I don't no if it is co insidance though

There is much more load on the pump when you move the steering wheel when stationary. This could cause the belt to slip ,which would not be evident when driving . Be aware also that ps pumps on discos have a habit of moving out of alignment when the bearing on the pump shaft fails the pulley moves forward out of line !!

OK thanks I will look into that but do you think the belt could do with replacing its mad cus it was only since I went through that yesterday it was like a small field with some ditches where other people and tractors have been through over the years and the ditches was field with water then when I got home is when I noticed the problem before that it was faultless cheers lee

Dont you have a single belt on your 300tdi (ie serpentine) . If so unlikely to solve with a belt replacement , sounds more like a pump problem . Ist jack vehicle up and try steering with wheels in air , see if there are any tight spots . also check you havent got any crap inbelt ribs or pump pulley.
