Hi, I have an almost new tdv6, which is supposed to have a quiet engine, well when I start mine from cold and drive it for about a mile I'd say the clatter it makes is getting on for td5 quality, surely it should not do this. The engine has a regular tapping noise whether cold, warm or fully hot, but is far worse during the warming up period. It sounds like an excessive clearance somewhere to me, but it has hydraulic tappets so am at a loss to know what is wrong here. Apart from the nasty noises it seems to perform ok, any Landy Techs out there got any ideas.

Have you taken it to the dealer you bought it from and spoken to them? There isn't going to be anything you can do yourself!

Thanks for your replies guys, but oil level has never dropped while i've had the car unless it was thrashed before delivery to me, and the dealership say they can't hear anything untoward,and no faults show on diagnostics, all the usual B-L-S-IT that i've come to expect of L/R dealerships. I feel a need to go public coming on. Best rgds.

I know this might seem a bit simple, but have you driven other TDV6's? If the dealer has a demo, or 2nd hand one (??!) for sale, tell them you want to try that one out to compare - if you can tell the difference, insist that someone from the dealership comes with you and tests them back-to-back. If they refuse, wait for a customer to come in and play hell in the sales area - usually gets them to listen!

Did you buy it from the dealer you are going to? That makes a big difference in my experience.

Yes I have driven another tdv6 a l/r assistance one in fact, and listened to some others and they do not have the tapping noise that mine has,but it was not at the dealers at the time. The dealership I have been to is the one I bought it from.

Go and shout at them until they take some notice. I'd strongly suggest getting a mechanic (I use the term loosely as it is a main dealer) along if you manage to set it up so you can drive yours and another back-to-back. I'd also suggest taking the "other" TDV6 out first and then yours, as it is more obvious when a noise is there than when it isn't - if that makes sense!

I'd be surprised if you find anyone on here who would be able to tell you what is potentially wrong with a TDV6 - we're mostly LR enthusiasts who don't have the money for new LR's as we've spent too much repairing our old ones! LOL
