Hi Guys,

Firstly let me introduce myself. I've been a serial stalker of these forums for a while now, gained so much gleaming info so thanks for that already.

Here is my problem.

I have a 200TDI Defender 90 (1993) When attempting to change the timing belt the 3 water pump bolts snapped in the block. 2 I recovered by welding a nut on, the third I had to drill out and when doing so knackered my block. I'm 90% sure it cant be saved so I'm looking at alternatives.

Here in Jersey we don't have the luxury of going on ebay and driving to the first available engine we see, there are simply very little parts. I have however been offered a number of DISCO 200TDI engines.

I understand (from several searches on the forum - yes I have tried looking for my answer) that a full conversion can be done but is quite involved and the conversion kits are a tad expensive at around £700.

What I want to know is can I buy one of these Disco engines, stick my 200tdi manifolds+turbo on (as the block is the same I believe) Then stick my Defender 200TDI timing case/gearing/cover on and rebuild it as a defender 200TDI using existing alternator power steering pump etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Ahh James, from my previous stalking of this forum I though you may reply!

Thanks for the info, so the timing case etc will fit on as it does on my defender block. I wont need to mess around with any fabrication etc.

Shame I need to source and find a new timing case and cover, they dont look cheap!

yes it will all fit on a disco block and head as they are the same ,flywheel housing differs as does front but its all bolt on

Cheers James. So I will need a new gasket for the flywheel housing too? you don't happen to know the part number do you?

Regards
