Hello LandyZone members,

I have had my Disco2 V8 for 2 and a half years now. I use it for commuting and towing our caravan.

During June last year we travelled to Devon and with the hot weather and slow traffic the transmission temperature light was always going to switch on at some point.

After the holiday I had a full service done including transmission oil and filter.

I have had an intermittent issue with the three amigos, and speedometer switching off with loss of performance for a good while and have recently obtained my own Hawkeye which allowed me to isolate the fault to the ground header located with the SLABS ECU being not properly connected.

Since I have resolved this issue performance is better and gear changes are smoother, but if I am stationary with the selector in any position, but worse in P, I get a noticeable intermittent knock, which I first thought was from a failing exhaust, but I have confirmed all the exhaust and CAT's are solid. The knock seems to be coming from the gearbox :-( there is a little presence of oil under there but I have never seen any patches after it has been parked. Also the transmission temperature lamp seems to be coming up more often even when not towing.

Is it worth checking fluid levels etc? I didn't know if there is a fluid level/pressure sensor for he transmission or if on these its just mechanical? I don't have any alarms/codes on any systems at the moment, just the occasional transmission temperature lamp?

I had a significant leak recently and while it was lowish on fluid on the way to the garage you could feel a knock of sorts in D while stationary. Would assume it was the low fluid which caused it as it’s been fine since. Definitely worth checking and topping up if required in the first instance, low fluid levels aren’t good for the box.
