Hi all,

Before I get shouted at for yet another tyre and wheel thread :( I wanted confirmation of a few things I've searched on, and to check if anyone has any words of wisdom or bargains!

I need to change the tyres on my Disco (255/55 r18) as it has 3 Goodyear Wranglers and 1 bargain bucket tyre in the front, with both on the front axle being balder than Harry Hill. :(

I want to downsize, so the 16" size seems to be 255/65r16? I was looking for BFG ATs, but my second choice was General Grabber ATs. I found these on my personal favourite website for £93.19 delivered a corner;

I was also considering a set of black modular wheels, from Paddocks at £35.40 each.

So I wanted to check the offset of these wheels is correct for my car, though they are D2 specific, so assume they're right!

Also, I believe I read that you need better wheel nuts than paddock provide. Is this the case? If so where can I get them?

Thank you for all your help,
Alex :)

If it was me, I wouldn't step down to 16s. Poorer on road handling in a vehicle partial to roll. + the modulars are naff.
I'd invest in a nice set of 18s....
Part worn ;)

Oh, will it really make that much of a difference? Seen people recommended to do it before?

Really like the look of black modulars on Discos.

Need the tyre change either way!

Black mods on a disco are awesome . . . but I maybe a little biased. :D

The modular steels have an offset of ET25, this means they will poke out about 30mm more than standard. The same effect as fitting +30mm spacers.

Here is mine when she was standard height, with the modular wheels and 265/70r16 tyres:

I'd say 16s over 18's anyday personally. The ride on 18s was awful, tyres are expensive and not much choice. But that depends how you intend you using it I guess.

That looks awesome mate! :D Really like the look of that! Kind of what I was going for, but with 255 65 16s. :)

Got any more pictures of it? What does it drive like normally?

Doesn't look like that any more, now four inch lift and 285/75.

Also worth noting that 265/70 work fine on standard alloys, but with spacers or wheels with additional offset like the mods, they catch on the rear offroad unless you have SLS in raised mode.

255/70 or 255/75 will be nice though.

Will try and dig out some more pics later

Do you have pics as yours sits now? I currently have a 2" lift with 265/75r16s AT2s mounted on standard alloys.

I'm planning to move to 285/75 on 16" modulars.

P.S. sorry for the thread hijack ;)

Ok, some more standard height, 265/70s

And for Jordan, 285/75 on +2" HD springs (these gave about 2.5% lift)

(headlight since sorted)

It rubbed on the rear of the front arches when turning and articulating, and on the rear on the rear arches when heavily compressed. It was fine for most laning, but not for P&P.

So I added 30mm spring spacers as well, much better.

Hopefully that'll do ya :D

Haha, cheers :D

Yeh not everyone is a fan but I like em. Knew I wanted them as soon as I got the landy. Even better that they're like £35 a corner. Bargain! :D

Great pics thanks. Love modulars, the extra track makes the D2 look so much better.

I'll be adding extended arches so hopfully shouldn't get too much rubbing but can always add spacers like you have.

You going for the flexi arches that need cutting to fit? I'm thinking about doing the same to go a bit bigger

Definitely going for black mods now, mine is silver and I think the silver on black looks awesome.

I'd like the white writing on the tyres.... but not too fussed.

So will 255/65 16's be alright you think? Keep standard ratios for the road.

So think I'll be okay using the nuts from Paddocks?

I would have thought 255/65 should be fine. Are you on air or coils at the rear?

Black mods on silver does definitely look awesome.

I used the nuts supplied by paddocks, they work just fine, but they don't stay chrome very long. I did intend to change them as they rusted, but I can't be arsed tbh.

That's a D2 std size so yes, they's be fine.
