Hi all,

I’ve got a Land Rover discovery 2 TD5 that struggles to start. It sounds like fuel starvation in the engine. When I crank it over it cranks over fine but can crank over for a long time before it splutters and then starts. Sometimes it doesn’t splutter at all. I’ve replaced the fuel pump and the one way valve in the fuel filter housing and it’s also had a fuel pressure regulator. But it’s like fuel is running back and then when I come to start it after it’s been stood for a while it will crank over for a while and then splutter and then start.

Sounds like air leak...just had that in my van was leak off pipes from injectors...

Have you done the injector loom recently? Have you checked for oil in red plug? Oil there causes all sorted of mischief. My td5 would feel like it hit fuel cut from overboost due to this. The harness pretty much a consumable on them!

When my starter motor was on the way out it affected the Cps so it would turn over a lot and eventually splutter into life, maybe worth thinking about.

Hi, Have you tried doing a purge cycle? (Ign on and press throttle 5 times) If this starts it then I'd suspect the injector washers/seals.

I currently have this issue also.
Just changed the injector seals as the old one was very bad.
Did an oil change, drained over 11 liter from engine, had a "bit" of diesel in it.

After that it hasn't started at all, and got a tip to check the rpm when trying to start.

I'm getting ~204rpm, and I have read that TD5 needs 260-300 rpm to start, so, a bad starter.

Had the bad starting occasionally but more and more lately.
