Evening All.

I have noticed a bang when I take up drive quite vigorously so I thought id get underneath and try and find where it is coming from. Jacked up one of the rear wheels to asses the rear diff and found that it makes a clunking noise when rotating the rear prop from one direction to the other. Not being an expert on the issue I thought id ask on here as to what your opining is on it. Took a quick video to try and explain. You may need to turn your speakers up a lot to hear the noise in question. Apologies for the poor quality. It was actually sunny outside the other day and its screwed the exposure up on the vid.

Any good advice will be gratefully welcomed.

you checked the oil level yet?.

You're making the assumption that the "bang" is coming from the diff. It's bound to make a bit of a clunk in that stationary position because you're taking up the backlash in the pinion to crownwheel, ie, metal on metal. Check your oil level by all means but I would suggest the noise is coming from elsewhere in the drivetrain.

Check your Watts linkage

and

Don't go under your motor when its on a jack, especially on stone chips!

Thanks for the reply's. Haven't checked oil level yet, too dark when I get back from work. I think the watts linkage may need new bush's but I thought that was for lateral movement, the "bang" happens when I take up drive which I wouldn't think would stress the watts linkage, but I may be wrong.
