My son is putting a tray back kit on his Disco 2 we have cut the back of the body off and disconnected the electrics we are now wiring new rear lights but we cannot start the car because the immobiliser will not turn off either with the button or the key, anybody any ideas how to disarm the immobiliser.

2 back doors and the one at the rear.

On the D2 the door latches are part of the central locking system and consequently the security and immobiliser systems. For want of a better description it's all one thing in the BCU.
I would suggest that you download a copy of RAVE and check what to do with the wiring, I'm sure that it's more than just disconnecting it and leaving it.

As you would for a tray back simplest way would be to reinstall a wire "bridge" that will replace the missing part of the wiring loop that was feeding the three door locks, I would assume the roof antenna is now missing, if so reinstall the antenna under the remaining part of the roof.

Or have the entire security system demobilised by someone with a diagnostic kit that seems to be a must have for the D2.

Thanks for reminding me @discool.

Not only would the receiver for the key fob need to be re-instated or disabled, but the ICE radio probably won't work because the aerials were part of the rear side windows with an amplifier on each, but that's no big deal. If the now tray-back Disco has ACE (not to be confused with air suspension) then there might be a problem with the accelerometer up in the roof too.

For the immobiliser the alarm roof receiver is important, without that it can't be remobilised to disable the immobiliser cos the BCU is locked so EKA is needed first or the receiver rewired and unlocked with fob...the door lock wirings can simply be left cut cos as long as the circuit is open there will be no misslock as open door signal ios closed to earth
