Hi
Need to repair either the regulator, or the motor, or the guides or summat on front passenger window.
Both Haynes and Rave say to start off with you need to lower the window to get the two bolts off that hold it to the bottom runner.
(I have a spare door and I intend taking this one apart first to see how it all works and to take the bits off it that I need. I know all are good cos the original door, that was replaced, I still have. Tis just slightly dented.)

So, I cannot get it to go down so I can take the two blasted bolts out.

If I undo all the 6 bolts holding the regulator and motor to the frame, I can push the glass down to a certain point and the rear bolt is easily accessible, but the front one is not. Being off the car and in the house it is not connected up to a car's electrics.
I suspect that the motor is in mesh and therefore stopping the regulator from moving, to allow full lowering.
The one I am trying to replace is still on the vehicle and the motor on that one don't work. Hence the need to fix it.
Are both Haynes and Rave so stupid as to assume that you will always be able to use the motor to position the glass?
Or am I just being stupid and cannot see what should be blindingly obvious?
Or am I just scared of pushing the glass too hard and either breaking it or damaging the motor's worm gear?
I have unbolted, moved and replaced the motor and regulator twice now and am getting fed up of going round in circles, so would appreciate any advice anyone can give me.
Cheers.

Right, having had a third go, I have undone all 6 bolts again and managed to manoeuvre the window glass down far enough to be able to see the two bolts, so should be able to get them undone now. Perhaps someone should tell RAVE and Haynes?
Anyway, can see a way forward now, and it is great the things a cup of coffee and a while away from it can achieve. :):):):):)

The last time I sorted out Motor/regulator! It was on my old Freelander!! By using a 12v battery with wire connector to the motor to drop it and lift it? Not sure if it's the same with Td5??

Yes, and by extension, if the motor will still move the glass what is one doing with the blessed thing? unless it is the glass itself that has to be replaced!
To do what you suggested with the glass I'd have to find a way of connecting it. The multiplugs at the door hinge end look a bit complex and I would be reduced to looking at a wiring diagram, ouch! OR doing trial and error. Both a pain! (Hate electrics):eek::eek:

Right well job done now. But it was a bit of a bugre!
The one on the car, once off, the motor worked although faster in one direction than the other, but the quadrant thing was stiff as fu ck.
Anyway struggled the other one on and maybe it was because it was vertical and on the car, but, despite being able to use electrickery to move the quadrant, I STILL struggled like fu ck to get the front bolt on the bottom runner back in. However I discovered it is possible to get it in with the bar behind the motor, with some crafty finger work and a spanner then a 1/4 dr socket. So chuffed when it worked properly.
But the fiddliest and most frustrating thing was getting the plastic pin things in the door card to engage with the holes in the door. Sounds pathetic I know and maybe it was hot and I was a bit tired, but I managed to bust at least one full set of the pin things, over the four times it took, so even though I had nearly two sets, it has still gone on missing a couple.
Just waiting for the new waist trim seal from Craddocks. And if anyone is ordering stuff from them on line, it is worth being aware that the site throws a wobbly just as you finish, so you think it's fu cked up. I then went through the whole ordering procedure again, and it happened again.
Result? Got an email confirmation for TWO orders for the same blessed thing.
So emailed them to ignore one of the orders. At £26 for a bit if rubber and metal FFS!
Hmmmm!:)
