Hi, have a disco 2, 2004 plate good motor but has now developed an auto box "intermittent drive" fault, it will drive great for days then it will decide it doesn't want to select "D". However hold the brake on and raise the engine rpm slowly to about 2000 and it will select drive (with a jolt) and then change up down for a few days till it decides again to mess about. Not had any M&S dash lights on. Oil strainer and oil changed and the valve block has been cleaned and checked !! any ideas what to try next???

how did you clean and check the valve block,and what was old oil like

Hi Jamesmartin, it was done by a retired auto transmission engineer so I can't answer that truthfully, but assume he knows what he was doing??

Hi,Jamesmartin, it transpires that the valve block hasn't been cleaned!!!! but the oil in the box is not black, but a reddish brown colour nor is there any smell of burning or degradation.(This i checked myself). Cheers
