I have an issue. I have a disco 2003 with a landrover tow bar. The bracket is behind the bumper meaning if I put a bike rack bracket behind the ball the post of the carrier will hit the bumper, even if I use a spacer and a offset carrier the measuremants are still oh so close. Could someone tell me how to carry 4 bikes on the back of my fab car. I need to be able to tow as well. obviously not with all 4 bikes on but need to have the ability to go out for the day with 4 bikes without having 2 of them in the boot.

I am new here but know someone will heeeelp. Thank you

pop into Halfrauds and ask them to show you - they have a couple that will fit. Yu mite wanna compare prices after, but it will give you an idea of whats available.

Hello,

I purchased a MaxRax in 2003. Have used it every since.

Be sure to purchase the extras that allow you to tow and carry bikes at the same time -
MAXXRAXX bike rack, cycle carriers, tow height extension. The UK 4 bike, cycle carrier, bicycle car rack

You will find that you need to remove the wheels from those bikes loaded last or they will clash with the caravan when you turn.

The system is very strong and has worked well for us as our kids have grown up and the bikes have got bigger and heavier.

Have a tip for you about how to secure the stabilising straps and will post a pic if you decide to run with this.

Good luck!

Cheers Rick, I have been looking at the maxxrax funnily enough. I have emailed them photos and measurements of the stupid tow bar and they reckon it wont fit. Are you using it on a disco 2 with a "behind the bumper tow plate".

I'm working on the Steering box just now so the tow ball is sitting low -

Here are some pics of my tow bar. It's a standard Land Rover Discovery 2 tow bar and the plate includes a MaxRax mount plus the caravan stabiliser. It's not pretty, not lightweight and needs a paint but it works well.

Does your tow bar look like a swan neck? If so, I had the exact same problem as you. I bought a Maxxraxx off Ebay then realised the 2 bolt flange was too far in below the bumper.

I bought a 2nd hand Dixon Bate adjustable tow bar to solve the problem. This brings the mounting bolts out far enough. The tow bar shown in the earlier flick would be ideal as well. At the time I bought mine I had an offer of a non adjustable one for £30.

The Maxxraxx is very good as it allows access to the boot when the bikes are on the rack.

Cheers, Andy

I have posted a link to photos of mine with a plumb line to try to show. it looks just like the one earlier though. Is that a adjustable coupling? seen those but they not type approved. I really want a maxxrax but even the towsure 4x4 ofset one would have the same trouble.
