Hi all,
When I purchased my series 3 88" 2.25 petrol it had 5 sets of NTC5193 steel wheels (from a disco 1 I believe) and cooper discovery ST all terrain rubbers (LT265/75/16) almost new with loads of tread!

I am wanting a more classic look, and something lighter as these things are hooge and heavy.

what boots are you all wearing, im mainly road biased with some recovery work in the winter and green laning, so biased towards an AT pattern.

I ran General ATs on my disco 2 and loved them but don't think I could afford a set on my series...plus they would look a bit funny im thinking?!

I know there are loads of tire threads, im hunting through them...but just want to see if anyone says "keep what you got joe boy"
:baby:

I am running on Avon Rangemaster 205s. ok on road. Not brilliant in snow and mud.
If ever I wear them out I will find some Debender rims so that I can use tubeless tyres but as for tyre choice it may come down to cost but would be all terrains again.

I would stick with your tyres if they are near brand new give the wheels a bit of a clean up and they will complement your series and as for the heavy steering get used to it its a series man up

Think I may adopt some of your wisdom :O)

I checked again last night and although there is tons of tread left (over 9mm) there are lots of tiny hair line cracks in the sidewall near the steel wheels.

Is this normal for older tires? I was going to take them to ATS to put the white writing on the inside, maybe they could advise if they are safe?

without seeing I really cant say nor can anyone else but if they are really small hairline cracks no problem there its when they start becoming big kick ass cracks the thickness of a penny its time to take them off but it is pretty normal for older tyres to get hairline cracks if the vehicle spends 90% of the time parked in the same place or not touched for 6 moths of the year but it would be a good idea just don't let them talk you in to a new set unnecessarily here is a pic of a series on disco rims you have an idea
