Hello again,

Firstly my heater won't work, but I have noticed when investigating that the wire from the battery (not the starter cable) seems to have been burnt somewhat at some point. There is a replacement from battery live through a 40A fuse into the passenger compartment where it seems to be spliced onto a brown wire feeding the ignition switch.

If I take this fuse out things start to get strange.... I can still start her and the windows and wipers still work, but the lights, hazards radio, interior light etc don't! Needless to say I am now confused! I can't help feeling this is connected to my heater not working. The heater switch has no effect neither does the fresh/recirc air switch. The fuse is ok for the heater and draws no current at all at any time.

Could these two be connected? Any ideas how to test if power is getting to the heater circuit, i.e. does anybody know where the relay is that operates the heater and what colour wires/connector is used? I can't find a Disco 1 wiring diagram as the Rave CD's I have are every model but the Disco 1.

I really would appreciate any help whatsoever.

Thanks,

Ian.

p.s. Are there any other fuses on the Disco one other than the main fusebox under the steering wheel.

sounds like you have whats commonly known as "an electical nightmare". someone has bodged the wiring at some point, if i were you i would take it to a good auto elec and get him to sort it out, you may need a sizeable overdraft(spelt correctly this time ;) ) though ;)

I already have a sizeable overdraft after buying the Disco! SWMBO won't appreciate it increasing with a wedding coming up!

Do you happen to know where the relay is for the heater motor? I really do not want to remove the dash to try and trace the wiring.

I've a feeling this relay is either missing or not getting an ignition live, If I could find it I could maybe splice one in or something.

Cheers

try a multimeter (or testbulb) to test for live to the heater. if no live then try bypassing the live with a piece of wire from a live source to see if it then works.

WooHoo!!!!! Fixed it!

After painstakingly removing half the Discos interior and tracing every possible wire I found a dodgy relay so replaced it and replaced the bodged up fusible wire under the bonnet now it's all perfect!!!

Now just need to put the dash back as it was..... and move on to the engine core plug!

Hi I have a disco 1993 and my headlights, hazard lights, interior lights, are not working if you try to switch any of them on my clock goes off could you please tell me where the relay was located my heater works fine
