Tried searching can't find anything so just got stuck in. Cradle has snapped on my D1 300tdi started removing the half's and tank seems free is the cradle all that holds the tank in place.

Thanks for replies guys in advance I'm fightin it now so any one who knows drop in a reply please lol
 
yes theres a strap above to trap between the two, tank wont come fully out till the towing plate support bars are removed

At the risk of stating the blindingly bleedin' obvious:-
  • The filler pipe
  • Tank breather tube
  • Pipes to and from the pump
  • Fuel level sender wiring
Or should it be removed upwards through the floor instead of trying to drop it from underneath?
 
I'm not trying to remove the tank I'm repairing the cradle just the tank seems to be floating free without the cradle in place!
 
NTC5787 was the part number of the diesel tank cradle, now well and truly obsolete nodoubt. It's not unkown for them to rust away I believe.

they do ,tank is a bit of a squeeze between the chassis legs ,though without cradle it will fall out at the nearest bump

just tried to search that part number on bearmach no results :( i am however onto something new "i think" lol details will be below soon for you all to tell me what im doing wrong haha
 
ok so when i was changing the exhaust i came across my split cradle being 40ish miles from home i temp fixed it (see image 1). today was time to go assess and try repair or replace, after much looking on the forum and the world of google i found almost nothing to go on. so like any other person with a little confidence i started to strip down and see what i was working with.

first i removed the para cord i repaired it with and then i unbolted the the rear half of the cradle (see image 2) impressed they came off without snapping.
that was the point i realized the tank was hanging free (sat on the rear anti roll bar and the tow bar mounts).
now without having a cradle and without a strap i have come up with a temp solution lol. (see image 3+4)
image 3 is a rear impact bar from behind the rear bumper of a mini cut and bolted in place on the anti roll bar mounts.
image 4 is currently a bit of wood held in place with cable ties.

the plan is to make a cradle replacement running the bottom of the tank but im still concerned about how to secure the tank itself as there's no strap and i cant see where one should be.

thoughts and ideas guys.

i dont know where the straps were to know where they go lol and my end goal is to re-strap the tank or secure it somehow and make a full under plate where the cradle was. i go off road more than i would like and any protection i can put in place is going to be a good thing lol feel free to go take some pics of yours for me to look at :)

No point in me taking any pics my disco tank its held in place with a pry bar lol
Cable tie a bit of ply wood under it no welding required :D

lol i have wood and cable ties on mine but think i would rather get it sorted rather than letting it bounce about haha

looks good and looks nice but also about £80 more than i have right now and also i see nothing on there to stop the tank floating about free above it! my goal is to stop tank movement and protect it from below.

edit: if i had the cash that would be the one for the 2nd part of my plan though :)

it is designed to act as strap as well.

that may be so but it would still leave the tank free to bounce up and down on it or slide side to side. unless of course it was done up tight enough to force the tank against the boot floor!

it is designed to replace the tank strap - ergo it does the same job in the same way. it works!
