I think the Discovery 1 can be difficult to get a good result. Sometimes I have put the system under pressure, using a pressure bleed system, and then have an assistant push the brake peddle up and down on my sayso while I open and close each bleed valve in the old fashioned way. Using the two methods together seems to help getting the last bit of air out.

I single person using a one way valve will work with bleeding the D1 brakes to replace the fluid.
Halfords plus loads of shiny ones on eBay 😊
