Yep. Thats dirty. The inside of your inlet manifold will be just as bad. Thats EGR for you. All that ****e is being ingested by your engine so the sooner you get rid of the EGR the better.
OK - See what you mean - I took the EGR thingy off!
Looks like it operates a valve by vacuum pipe on the top. The valve was moving which is good I guess, at least not stuck open, but inside is full of black sticky ****e. Poked around in the manifold which was full of the same black ****e - now all over my hands.
If I remove the vacuum pipe presumable the valve will never open and that will have the same effect as removing it?
I havn't got a blanking kit now so I'm going to have to give a quick wash out and refit as I've got to pick kids up in 1/2 hr![]()
Cleaned mine out by putting the manifold in our old kitchen oven on full chat for an hour or so. Carbonises the crap and it brushes out. Should add I used the old oven IN THE GARDEN while our kitchen was refitted. Don't do this in doors or when the Doris is at home as it smokes just a tadAlso warming it up evenly like this relaxes any stresses in the manifold which should prevent cracking.
