My garage chaps who are lR specialists, meaning they have a bigger hammer than us, have advised that an oil leak i have is the crank(???) oil seal, which is losing oil from engine. Its a gearbox out jobby to do, although the part is only about a tenner.
Now its under warranty, my guys quote around 250-300 to do job, where as my dealer who i bought off (not main) reckons it can be done for 200, and will allow me to put it in to my guys but will only contribute 200 quid. He says he can take the car and get it done locally to him for that price. So whats the option here, do i go with who i know and cough up the rest, or hand it back to dealer (who i dont trust one iota)?

depends on the terms of the warranty.

generally i would think that you can argue that the official LR time/price for the job should be acceptable for any warranty claim.
im sure the courts would agree with that. (if it came to it).

But the problem i have with using the dealers back street pokey hole, is i want to put a clutch in while box is out, makes sense. I know my guys will do that, but not sure the dealers will.

With the dealer, and as its not a main dealer i generally have to go through him, although he said he will stand the equivalent repair costs if theres any problems and i stick with my own guys.

if your unhappy with the place you bought the car from doing the work then pay the extra to your local guy for piece of mind especialy if there going to pay the first £200.
