Hi all,

A wee bit of advice concerning diff ratios etc would be well appreciated. I have a 2 ¼ diesel that runs on range rover
diff’s
and 7.50x16 tyres. My fuel consumption is fantastic but the engine just has not got the power for the ratios used me think.

I have never run a land rover with the standard
diff’s
, how do they hold them self when driving say up medium hill found on most roads at around 50 mph. I change down to third and hang it out at around 40mph, don’t really bother me but I was thinking of maybe changing back to the original ratios and thought maybe someone might also have done the same for similar reasons. Changing the tyre size might be enough maybe???

Many Thanks!!!

Wunt know the exact figures (but I bet sum clever bugger will), but thinking back to my old 2 1/4 doosul III I'd reckon it'd be much the same difference running RR diffs to running bigger tyres.

Yer best bet might be to go back to standard diffs, not increase tyre circumference & fit an overdrive so you have control over the gearing?

Yih, buuuut if you wuz rilly clever you'da dun the sums too. Any ol' bugger can post a link!

Thanks Grippa/Madhatman!!!

I think I will save me pennies, fit original diffs and an overdrive but not now I'll hang on with what I got. Me ****ty exhaust has just snapped at the manifold!!! I am hitting 60 at the moment with an old diesel lump and returning 40mpg at the moment. Not bad, but I do have a ****ty flat spot between 40 and 45.

I need a hill in my favor to get over 40 which can be a bugger with a queue of Audi/BMW drivers looking to take over the world behind me....

Half the pleasure of a Landy is making them wait for you.
I mean, would any of them dare tangle with your bumpers and chassis?

What might cost you a fiver from Haddocks might cost them a grand!

When they slip off the road on a snowy day their attitudes change when old Landies appear. Did you ever notice that?
