Hi Guys

I have had to replace my crownwheel and pinion on the front diff after aslight mishap involving a short steep climb up a rather slippery track out of a river. The pinion took a bit of a twist and stripped a hole bunch of teeth off the crownwheel because the front wheels went slightly airborn as I crestes the top and the engine raced because the back wheels had also lost traction Needless to say that when the front wheels came back to earth they bit in immediately putting great strain on the diff. It is the normal Rover diff and 1975 model station wagon.

My manual has no info on the adjustments ets for the diff
Does anyone out there have this info to share with me I would be most grateful

Thanks:)

only use timken bearings , and you may be lucky with pinion height, you can check with engineers blue or spray on grease for tooth contact, ther are shims that go between pinion brgs that adjust preload on brgs ,crown wheel is adjusted by winding nut to remove freeplay between teeth of pinion and crown wheel and adjusting other nut to give a little backlash this preloads brgs at same time ,can give full details if required but would require dti and special tools do saet as factory

Thanks Guys you have saved me from a great deal of stress with your replys.
Oxides you are a star I bought a manual at great expense that seems to be a greatly abridged version of the PDF files I have now downloaded and can print as needed.
