So the diff is in high I pull away very slowly get into 2nd gear very slowly then a whirring sound comes from near the diff...Any IDEAS plz

Are you sure low gear is properly selected and it hasn't popped out of gear.

I'm assuming its a Disco you have ? if so you may get a better responce if you ask this again in the Disco section.
