Been getting the v8 slowly serviced. sofar diff oils, engine 5-40 (overkill I know) air filter, diff guards fittted.:) however the diff lock is jammed to buggery Even after using a pry bar. Whats my options to un-jam it?

pry bar yowch!!

how are you trying to engage and disengage the difd lock? not trying to teach you to suck eggs but you may not be doing it correctley

ok can you get it on ramps? get a good light and look down the side (right side on a mk1) you should see the linkages and spray them with wd40 you may be able to get the upper ones to, weare goggles you dont want oil or crud in your eyes

link that may help see the linkages and where they go: www.discovery2.co.uk / Disco 1 CDL into a Disco 2

that should help free the linkages if not you may need to go in from the top of the transmission tunnel, that involves removeing center consul and drilling out rivets

hope this helps you

just done mine i soked top of g/box linkedge in derv, left over night.
next day still nowt so got out 2lb lump hammer and hit the **** out of it.not the thing todo but fecking hell makes you feel good ,
well just tapped the small gear stick side to side a bit this worked for me

Cheers guys. Need to do it before the MOT as I dont want the muppets fu*king up the diff on the brake rollers:eek:

Put car in "N" keep foot on footbrake and push lever forward. (car jammed in high-range)

Can't put a disco on brake rollers unless it's a 4wheel roller rig. Or it's one of these noo fangled roller test beds. but they cost mega buck and aren't usually found in ya average MOT station.

That's not difflock that's Lo-Hi range Diff lock is engaged by pushing the lever to the left

i took my tranny tunnel off mine as the linkage fell off and found the box bit where the stick gose in was full of a dry muddy gunk, think it used to be grease, cleaned out what i could and put some grease in it and moved it around for a while, i found it opperates a hell of a lot better now.

OOOPS:(:(

My lack of knowledge shines through:D
So its only jammed in high-range??

have yu tried pushing the small gear lever all the way over to the left? if so did the difflock light come on? If not try this first and then report back. For Clarification Difflock works in both LO & Hi range,

Car is in high-range. pushed to the immediate left and nothing. even used my foot and had to stop as I didnt want to snap it off.:(:(

yup if it won't move over to the left & it won't go forwards then it's seized solid.

They won't touch the transfer box lever in the MoT, there's no need to. My local MoT place has 2 test centres, a main garage and a satellite place (as in, a couple of miles away, they don't MoT satellites...). The new gaff has all new equipment including the latest emissions machine, etc and its brake roller has a 4WD facility, so I assume the newer ones come with it or the price difference has closed up???

Bollox:(

Am I just better cutting me loses and taking the tranny tunnel off...........p.s 20quid aday habit but I love it:D:D

Thats the only way mate. Take it all off & the boot etc. & you'll see a transverse steel pin that the lever forks onto. This is whats most likely siezed. You have to have patience & a lot of WD40 & spray grease & work it side to side & back & forth. You'll know when its free.
