Just a quicky.

Both my diffs are leaking from the input end i.e the Propshaft end.


Am i right in thinking this is the "pinion oil seal" ??

But i think its abit more serious than that :-D

But if it is the seals i am right in saying the are called "pinion seals" ?
 
Yep - within the article there's another link to click on (about half way down, something REEDX) - some exploded pictures in that one

Think it's part FRC8220 - but do double check before buying!

Just popped out n check breathers Front was fine.
Back was full of crap, gave it all a clean but think for peace of mind ill change the seals as they are only a couple of quid.

Must confess have been putting off doing the same with mine - beleive undoing the centre nut on the rear can be a bugger!

Hope it goes smoothly - oh, and would suggest going for the OE part

There's a special tool to hold the flange but a couple of bolts, a ring spanner and a section of scaff pole works just fine.
 
Havnt recieved parts yet!!

I ordered right in the middle of the mega holiday on a 5 day delivery so i guess it could be early next week before i get the seals!
 
Ive done the front seal once already and will be doing it again next week when the paddocks delivery turns up.

My fault for doing it twice, i didnt push the seal down far enough into the diff so it leaks when the props spinning.

Its easy enough to do, id try and undo the centre bolt with all 4 wheels on the ground though as its proper tight and i struggled to get owt to brace the flange well enough.
 
you live not far from me if you need to borrow snap on 1/2 battery gun at night or weekend for such jobs let me know,ive most tools ,im in louth
 
I made a tool up to hold three of the 4 bolts on the flange whilst still being able to get a breaker bar on the nut to do the T Box seal on my last fender so that shud do the trick.

If not ym mates got a Snap on battery impact driver.

And I've got a compressor and air ratchet if things get really bad.

Cheers dude. We were trying to work out where you were from the other day. We guessed at somewhere near saxilby. Not even close!
 
Reading this post with interest as my rear diff (recently replaced) has started to drip too. Oil is nice and clean so diff itself is ok but sounds like pinion seal. I'll check the breathers first though as SH suggests.
 
You may end up needing to chnage it anyway Andy - read somewhere that even if the cause is a blocked breather (tube or banjo bolt), once the oil has been forced past the seal, it doesn't often 'cure' itself.

It's on my 'to do list' - but a few weekends away I fear

Fair point SH ... I'll do mine after you've done yours so you can give me some pointers :D
I've got the track rod ends and steering drop arm to fit yet :rolleyes:
Oh and I hope you're able to look in the mirror without seeing rustproof foundation now :D:D
