Hi all,
Just bought a series 3 2.25 diesel 3 bearing engine from what I can make out the engine numbers start with 901 it's coming up as a petrol engine I'm confused can anyone enlighten me.

A long time ago, many petrol engines were converted to diesel, retaining the petrol engine's block. Yours could well be one of them.

There is a worry with the 3 bearing lumps that is it might have a petrol crank in it which is cast instead of forged and no where near as strong.

The only way to be sure is drop the sump and see if the crank has a P cast into it. If it has its a petrol crank and will give up under load sooner rather than later.

Common practice by some engine rebuilders blocks are the same as long as it s not a turbo it should be ok .
