I've fitted a smaller auxillery tank for starting up on diesel as part of a twin tanking system for veg oil.

Does anyone know how much fuel a 300 tdi draws? At the end of my journey I switch it via a valve to clean through and dump the return in the main tank.....just wondered how long this would take to perge through?

So basically how long does it take the fuel to go through the filter...via lift pump, through injection pump and returned..just on tick over say 800rpm

Thanks

about twice as long as it does at 1600 rpm..

why don't ya just switch it over 1 mile or so from ya destination.

In fact why bother with a twin tank 300tdi will run fine on veggy oil without all that palaver..

My system has a heatexchanger connected to coolant lines. I am aware 300tdi will run fine on veg oil but when cold and if using wvo it's advisable to heat it first for a few minutes.

When switching back to diesel to perge through that goes to the veg oil tank, my switch is 3 way
off = diesel + rtn to diesel
1 = veg oil + rtn to veg oil
2 = diesel perge + rtn to veg oil

Position 2 ensures little perge at the end gets the pipes nice and clean ready for start up again. So I just wanted to know how long this would on tickover at destination....1 minute?...2 minutes?

I've taken the return from the inj pump back to either tank, is this what you mean by spill pipes?

not sure but im interested as this is something i want to do, just havnmta clue where to start with what pumsp etc to use.

4 litres does sound excessive though, it may be returning to normal tank and not reserve.

i'll take some pics if you like

I had a little tank made that is under the car bolted to floor under drive seat...some just use a plastic marine tank in boot but I like to have a boot with no diesel in it!!
the heat exchanger off ebay £40
pevekoil solenoid valves from biotuning £60 each...good valves! intenal diameter nice n big
thats about it bar a switch and a few bits of pipe, and about 100 jubilee clips
I was a bit nervous at start, but now fairly confident.....
