Anyone ever taken the 2.5 further than the usual remap?
Manual boost controller for that little bit extra? Bigger turbo? Etc?
If so, how do you go about increasing the fueling to cope?

Interested to hear anything....
 
As hippo say's budget for a stronger gearbox before you up the power. The auto box is close to it's torque limit as standard, even a power box takes it way over. You would need to replace the ZF4HP22e with a ZF4HP24e at the very least. Unless of course you have a manual box.
 
more than that..ie i have a lt77 in my old 4 door..that runs 3.3 6 pot diesel on 2 bar pressure,with lpg etc..its done 50000 miles on this box..
however i have taken out 6 lt95/85's in my 2 door!(but that runs 400hp)the clutch is the problem,but one can easily upgrade that at the cost of a hard clutch pedal..

before tuning...BUY AND INSTALL an egt gauge,or it will all end up in tears..
 
yes..takes me 4hrs in /out.(thats 2 people to actually lift in/out,otherwise just me)

but i have had practise!!lol.
 
Are you a dreamer? You ask about modding the transmission but have done nothing to the engine. If you need to ask these questions maybe you should leave well alone.
 
Interesting - the 4.6 P38A ceased production in 2001/2002 didn't it?

Think it was used by the V8 disco after P38 stopped production. Think the bloke is a dreamer Ant. Bit like a Tornado pilot asking what mods are needed to fit some EJ2000s. :):):)

I'm looking for information for future ideas. It's called planning ahead.

I'm not going to justify myself, and have no need to. I'm merely looking for some advice and info from people who may have gone down these roads before.
1. Considering a P38 DSE
2. Wanting more than the meagre power they seem to have
3. Finding out what the shortcomings are
4. Finding out how to address these issues

Answers:

1. Good Choice - I have one too
2. Don't get a Oil Burning P38 then...up the engine spec and chew up gearboxes - the L322 'box isn't a straight swap, and with the multitude of electronics to contend with, would be difficult for the DIY'er to approach.
3. Money
4. Buy a different vehicle....

TBH, my DSE is quite spritly when poked, when I bought it a reciept was in the folder of reciepts from Janspeed, indicated a remapping - although I have not had this confirmed, but it will go like a scalded whippet when you mash the loud pedal....

The M51 for the Range Rover was retuned to provide low end grunt and not top end speed, as in a capable 4x4 it is all about the low end - as they say when off roading - as slow as possible and as fast as necessary - which is rarely above 15-20mph and more like 5-10mph.

If you want speed or power, buy a BMW, Merc or Audi....

This why the Cayennes, BMW X ranges, Merc M Classes, Audi Q series vehicles are not great at the dirty stuff, they are aimed at road users who want a 4x4 to use on the roads....not a true 4x4 with a 60+ year history of offroading.

If you want poke and also the mpg benefit of a diesel but still a 4x4 with proven offroad ability - get an lpg V8.

Its not about speed, its about ability - which the Range Rover (and the other Land Rover models - Evoque aside I guess) has in spades.

You would have to swap the 4,6 bell housing for the diesel bell housing but as far as I can ascertain this is not a problem, also as far as I can tell there are no electronic implications. I don't have the cash to buy a
ZF4HP24 or I'd be looking to try it. The box must be from a P38 though.

Exactly D, but he did ask if a L322 'box would fit....
