My series 3 2.25 diesel failed its MOT on emissions. They have been growing for a while and this time it was way over the top. The diesel pump was leaking so ive had a spend up.....
Four brand new lucas injectors and a brand new lucas pump! It runs like a dream sounds great and picks up perfect EXCEPT the F*&%£$% emmissions were just worse than it was to start with and it smokes like a pig, only on idle!!! Once given a few revs its crystal. Why???? The pump has been moved about for the timing and is as far as it will go one way. I personaly havn't done it and the grease monkey employed is stumped. Please help need to get back on the road ASAP!

Thanks!

P.S Its idle RPM is a touch high.

Rings or valve stem seals ...... sounds like poor compression at low speeds, and make sure the valve clearances are a good ten thou all round.

AND make SURE that idle speed is controlled by the idle lever and NOT by tension on the throttle cable. This is most important.

Think the rings are good because we opened the oil filler cap and dip stick and there wasn't any sign of back preassure. Will check the rest you recomended though.

Thanks alot

P.S: still open to as many suggestions as possible!!!
