Hi, my oil level seems to be creeping up. 2000 TD 5. I have bought a new and genuine set of injector seals - but I may have to suffer a new head. Some questions. I think my replacement engine is a 15p, how can I tell? Are the 10's and the 15's the same head - if I have to replace it. How can I tell visually if the head is cracked once the injectors are out? The car runs fine, went through emissions fine, doesn't smoke, the problem is purely that the oil level on the dipstick is rising - and the oil I suspect is thinning.

Also - I am not the strongest of people - would I need an engine crane to lift off and on the head?

Many thanks in advance

Adam

Check your engine number stamped on the left hand side of the block below the exhaust manifold, it will start with 10P, 15P or even possible even 16 or 18

You will need a winch or crane to lift the head, even if you are strong enough it is just better to have more control over it, especially when putting it back on. Unless you have a mate who can help you, but even then.........

If the head is cracked internally it'll need pressure testing to be sure.

A crane certainly might give you more control, but it can be removed and replaced easily by two people, and SWMBO was the extra two hands when I did mine!!!

Can be...but it depends on how much experience of doing it you have. If you've done a few you will be less likely to make mistakes, trap fingers (or other things) etc. ;)

15p also has egr cooler at the front. You may detect a crack if you take the rocker cover off, remove injector loom and rocker shaft, then turn the ign to II so it pressurises the fuel rail. You might see the leak. It could be an injector if your lucky. If you see a leak near an injector, swap it for another and see if the leak follows it.

Presumably you're going to try the seals first, plus the other checks mentioned? I'd like to be sure it's the head before pulling it off.
