Thanks to help on this forum I managed to solve my fuel up the back of the landy so just wanted to post this to help others.
I housed the car down and the diesel could be seen all under the bottom of the tank and following the search on this forum it appeared to be a leaking fuel pipe, common fault, rubbing on the chassis. Is there an end to these common problems?
Anyway from the threads on here there is a useful guide to dropping the tank out and changing the pipes. I rang a main dealer who said that they dont stock all the four pipes but just one as its mainly that one. Once i got home i checked the workshop manual and the guide on here and it was the same one of the four that had gone on his. Anyway in passing chat to this parts guy he said i dont think that the guys in the garage have to drop the tank for that one.
I had a look underneath and this particular pipe (green one high pressure to engine) runs from the tank across the cross member and then adjacent to the side rail.
I followed the workshop manual which said about removing all the rear internal panels and them making up some spring retainer for the 6/7th seats. After wrecking a few of the internal panels holding clips i got fed up and just yanked the carpet which came easily out from under the panels and rear edging strip. Wish id of known about that earlier!!! It was even easy to put back!
Anyway I basicly undid the access cover, uncliped the green pipe. Remember at this stage to also take of the green clip as you dont get this with the replacement part. It may break as you pull it through so take it off at this stage. Then i uncliped where it ran adjacent to the chasis rail (this was a bit hard as the one side of the push in clip is against the chassis which i notice has be rotated on the replacement part for easier access. I then pulled it through...easy. Replacement was relatively straight forward and the replacement part now comes with some wrapping to put round the pipe to protect it. The part was £33.
Hope that is of some help to someone as you too work your way through the never ending common faults. I even had to buy it a new battery that day. I was trying to jump start it and thinking to myself i hate this car, im always fixing it, then it fires up and im almost crying how much i love it. Its strange this whole landrover ownership thing.
