This is what 40 years of diesel fumes do to bolts. The more to the top the more they were in the neighbourhood of the exhaustpipe

thats probably heat/cool cycle damage rather than diesel fumes. where are they from?
 
The bolts are from the backside bumper (military). Thought is was the sulfer in the diesel. It also really itched on my hands when I washed them later on.

Shouldnt be hardly any sulphur in modern diesel. So little in the atmosphere now they have to add it to fertilizer!

Going by the textbook, you should try and keep skin away from diesel fuel. If you are sensitive to it, gloves might be good.
