Can anyone enlight me on a little information I recived recently. Is it true you can convert a diesel engine to run on LPG. If so has anyone converted a td5 & what's it like? Power wise & reliability & cost.
You can convert a diesel to LPG. If you change half the engine to convert it to a petrol engine lol.
LPG dont do compression ignition
I take it's a load of ****e then! Thanks for the input peops.
It can be done. I dont proffes to know much about it but from what i have read on it it works well.
The system is designed to inject a small amount of gas in to help the derv burn hotter there fore giving more power which in turn can give improved economy.
Not seen much about the figures though.
Think it's called lpg or diesel fumigation or something like that...and it leads to a more complete burn of the diesel when used in small quantities hence the lower emissions or greater power. Tempted to try it on my 200 tdi but too many projects already. Spoke to my local hgv haulage firm and they considered using it but felt there wasn't quite enough in it to make it worthwhile as they were quite local. Popular in Aus and USA because of much greater distances at constant throttle positions etc... Kate
