according to the telegraph its time to hang up your diesil motors and find other options as some high court judge has ruled we have'nt met the eu anti pollution levels we sign'd up for. i,m not an eu or climate septic so discuss and convince me the merits of all this

This country, and the politicians who run it are more likely to tax rather than ban. This could be the excuse they need for more cities adopting "Low Emissions Zones" as Boris has already done.

We, the car buying public will not have any say in the matter. However, as most if not all car manufacturers produce diesel cars these days it will be up to them to tell the various greenies, EU idiocrats and the other stone age thinking yoghurt knitters where to stick their particulates.

Just another excuse for the Government to increase the amount of tax diesel vehicle owners have to cough up every year, simple come back if people complain is "get a more efficient vehicle". Luckily I own a petrol car that falls 2g/km below the maximum 226+g/km £400(maybe more now)bracket.

I'd guess that if they do punish diesel owners wallets now then in 10/15 years time they'd find something wrong with the hybrid and electric cars and tax them more severely.

The big increase in wood burning fires is probably another cause of particulates. In the 50's we had smog, when they banned coal fires it disappeared.
Blaming cars is just an excuse to tax, trucks are all diesel what are they proposing to do about them?

Not really, people seem to enjoy removing factory exhaust systems

hi bobsticle i believe for your own personal use there's a litre limit before your ment to declare it and pay tax

Im going to open the injectors a tad so I can just chop lard straight into the tank. :D

Its a hard life with a 1966 88. No tax and free chip oil. My nephew says Im all but ready for the zombie apocalypse.

It will be tough to do since
The majority of trucks are diesel
The majority of boats are diesel
Land Rover would probably go bankrupt considering the majority of what they sell are diesels
All Taxis are diesel
All Ambulances are diesel
All Fire Engines are diesel
Most Police cars are diesel
Garbage Trucks are diesel
Many buses are diesel
Most coaches are diesel
All airport machinery are diesel
The majority of generators (back up and personal) are diesel

Can't think of anymore! I know they are phasing out diesel buses in favour of hybrid and hydrogen but still. This mad idea they have had would cost the UK millions but then probably make a fair chunk on tax.

The issue isn't the engines themselves as much as the huge switch to diesel from Petrol that has taken place in the past 20 years.

The new rules on emmisions are hurting the railway industry as well.

Cannot build a Diesel loco which passes the next emmisions rules, fits on UK loading gauge and has enough power to pull a train.

So old ones get rebuilt

no not joking some high court judge rule'd yesterday that we are in breach of eu ruling on emissions, due to the large jump in diesel power'd vehicles, even the new breed of diesel power'd engines are breaking the new eu laws, one of the new proposal's is that plod are to get alternative power'd motors (electric)
