Hi
I have an 88 with fourtrak engine fitted it ha some problems , the rear oil seal has gone and the ring gear / starter gearing is badly worn , trying to track down engine parts ( tricky as they want the regitration number of the original vehicle rather than the engine numbers) it seems this is an early engine a 2.5ltr version, so I'm wondering if it is worth putting money and work into such an old engine as it is also hard to start though this may just be the heater plugs, but it does run very nicely quite fast powerful and smooth ( especially with overdrive fitted) so I'm thinking maybe to replce it with a later fourtrak engine 2.8 TDI if I can get hold of a good one cheap.
Has anyone got experience of these engines in landys , will the later engines directly replace the earlier without further mods ?
any advice appreciated.
Paul

I think you will have on probs fitting the newer type injun, you could find a pic of a fourtrack with the early type injun on tinternet and use its reg to get your parts.

Thank for that, tempting to think fitting a nice 2.8 TDI maybe hard to get a nice one cheap though .
Good idea about looking for a photo on the internet , but, I have tried and can't find one !?:(
