Rebuilt my 200Tdi defender 6 years ago.

New extended length rear cross member fitted, under sealed and wax oiled at the time. Pressure washed and repeat treatment every year since.

Now totally shot - just spent weekend replacing by proper black-sheep item. What a difference, better designed, and made from proper stuff. Not 2mm self rotting tissue paper.

Why do suppliers sell crap spares when there are the likes of black-sheep around??

Why do Land Rover still sell defenders with a chassis prone to rot, surely after the many decades of building Land Rovers you'd think they'd put some decent protection on. Bean counters mate, that's why.

Yes, £5 worth of galvanizing on chassis and bulkhead on production would extend their life indefinitely.
