i am looking to get a 1990-1995 defender 110 for some camping and off roading here in Arizona. the selection of vehicles in the US is minimal and the nice ones are crazy priced. im looking at vehicles in the UK and Italy. one thing i have noticed is that some of these have a White or black top and some are the same color as the vehicle. was this just a factory option or is that a different trim level? from what i can gather the 200 TDI engine seems to be the best? some of the defenders i have seen have 180K plus miles on them and some are crazy low miles(im thinking the odometer was rolled back). is a 180K mile TDI engine a good engine? any rebuilding costs estimates? just asking all the questions i can think of..

thanks for any insite

The engine will likely be fine if it’s been regularly serviced. The issue will more likely be rust in the chassis and bulkhead.

this is a mid 90s defender im looking at.. anything glaring here? I see the rust on the pairings but not sure how bad that is for a defender.. any input appreciated.

I see the rust on coils... hate spell check.. but looking for options on the underside

My 200tdi has done 207000 and is still strong with no leaks and smoke but as pointed out it prolly gets more attention with regular fluid changes etc.
