Evening All.

Im looking to purchase some towing mirrors for my defender 90. Has anyone got any recommendations on type, make or "don't buy's". I need them to tow a caravan. Any advice gratefully received

How wide is the caravan? Whenever I've towed anything reasonably wide, I've just moved the mirror arms out to 90 degrees, which put them far enough out to see down the side of the trailer. If you can get away with this you don't legally need extra mirrors.

As far as I was aware the standard Defender mirrors are intended for towing hence the 2 predominant positions on the arms. Close in for normal driving and pushed out (as said above to 90degs) for towing.
Blind spots on the other hand...

I'm aware of the 90 deg setting but didn't know whether that setting would be enough. the Caravan body is 2.28m wide. When you mention blind spots what do you mean exactly?

Standard Defender mirrors tend to be pretty bad for blindspots (if you have rear windows its not so bad, but with panelled sides its not great) haven't used mine for towing yet though.

There are plenty of illustration on the Internet of the regulations regarding towing mirrors so you can see the exact requirements, but basically you have to be be able to see down the sides of your caravan. You can't do this with standard defender mirrors. You can get extended arms from paddocks, craddocks etc or use additional clip on mirrors. I have been using the type with rubber straps for a few years, which do the job but are not very secure and loosen off when driving. I have seen various reports on caravanners websites of people using milenco aero mirrors clamped in the slot under the defender mirror arm with success, and have bought a pair which should arrive this week

Re blind spots, its a csw so have side windows and rear window. I've seen the milenco so I might give those a try.

Thanks to all those who replied, I appreciate your comments and help

I got these mirror heads to get past the blindspot problem. http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/mud-blind-spot-mirror.html . Not sure if they would work out for a caravan but I would image so as I have mine setup so that I can always see alongside the beast. Before I got these, I was always worried about moving into somebody hiding in my blind spot.
