Current situation with 2002 15P Td5 110 DCPU...headlights not working at all, small sidelights are working, and all of the dash warning lights illuminate as if the headlights were working. The main beam flash function also isn’t working when the stalk is pulled back.

I have tried to cure the problem in the following ways...

1. Checked all fuses and all ok (including upgraded in-line fuses for upgraded headlights)

2. Replaced the (upgrade) relays for the headlights.

3. Replaced the dip/dim red Lucas relay behind the dashboard clocks.

4. Replaced the sidelight/headlight small switch on the steering column, and the multifunction horn/main-beam/indicator stalk switch with new items.

I’m slightly stuck as to what to look at next, has anyone got any ideas of where I can look next?

Many Thanks

Try unpluging the "upgraded" headlight loom and plug them in direct.

Have you replaced the relay that sits in the middle fuse box?

Another route is connect the headlights but run a new earth direct from the headlight connection to a good earth point.

I didn’t think about bypassing the relay loom!! I’ll give that a try for sure.

I’ve looked in the middle fuse box (the one behind the gear sticks) and I don’t think there was a relay for the headlights in there? Or is it one that’s been well hidden?

Thanks

There is one. I cant quite remember which but I had a similiar issue last winter. Turns out the relay had burnt out.

Check them all, could be as simple as that.

Could be that the relay in the cab fuse box has gone after I’ve changed the switches or something...

It may sound like a daft question but did you check the bulbs?
I actually had this same fault last week (2005 TD5 110) and after searching online about pink relays and switches/wiring faults, checked the bulbs and both had clearly failed at exactly the same time.
That is, when l turned the headlights back on after visiting a customer.
They were both on when l pulled up as l saw the beam pattern on their garage door.

Just thought I’d give you all a quick update, and thank everyone who replied.

Having checked a few of the things suggested here I went back to the original Land Rover wiring, and by-passed the “upgrade” wiring and relays that the previous owner had installed. All seems to be running fine on the original LR wiring at the moment.

However I have noticed a slight intermittent issue with the brake lights...I’ll add this as a new topic though as I suspect this could be unconnected.

Thanks again to everyone who offered advice and Merry Christmas!
