hi just wondering if anyone can give me some advice.
i have a 1999 defender td5. today whilst driving it just died.
when i tried to start it again it turned over but wouldnt fire up.
when i turn the ignition on the engine warning and glow plug lights dont illuminate. has anyone got any ideas?
thanks Dave

Did it cut out as you were driving...or as you were on tickover at a junction fx...did it die slowly and splutter or just cut out?

ave u tried the fuel cut of switch.its a little black box fixed to bulkhead .i ave an 53 110 nd had same thing happen

He's been gone 7 hours....shall we call out thunderbird 4? Or just let the feeker die?

Hi
Had exactly the same problem on my 2001 td5 recently turned out to be a faulty relay under seat box by the ecu.

It can often be down to the fuses or relays rattling loose under the seat.

has your fuel pump been making noises like a strangled cat after the vehicle has cut out or has it remained quiet?

The fuel pump is quiet, the only lights that come on on the dash are the oil light and the battery light as per usual nothing else. i have tried playing with the relays and everything else under the drivers seat pulling them out putting them back but sometimes it takes hours for it to start again?

Have you had the ECU plugged in and read? Mine was fried from the oil that works it's way up the injector loom.

I have had it plugged in and all that came back as a fault that there was damp in the loom having looked at the at the connectors going into the ecu they're both dry and clean with no hint of oil to them, what did you do from there?

Are you sure that the diagnostic machine came up with 'damp in the loom'?

Sounds like you want the fuel pressure checking

yeah im pretty sure that's what it said or something along those lines anyway, thanks for the suggestion its due a service soon so i'll ask the garage about it then thanks again

Hello X Man. I have just posted a cry for help with my Td5 cutting out. Did you resolve your own problem? And, I'd yes, what was the problem, or was it the oil working its way up the injector loom?
