had my defender off the road for a few jobs beginning of the year and finally finished it this week but I have now encountered a problem, when stood still the landy seems to have a vibration I can see the gearstick really vibrating till I put the revs on the next issue is when I'm driving I can feel a vibration through the steering wheel, it's not the death wobble I had that before its just not smooth (smooth as a defender can be lol) like it was before I tinkered so the jobs I have done

New steering colum
Changed the rear main seal (gearbox out etc)
New seat box, new tub, all axles have remained props were removed to take out gearbox I'm just wondering if me changing the colum or having the box out could result in it now having a vibration, it's not bad don't get me wrong it's just there and annoying makes me not want to drive it

I'm thinking it's the first port of call just couldn't understand why they would be any different from when I took it off the road, will get them done tomorow and see if that changes anything

What size are your tires ? Larger tires that have stood get a flat spot that takes ages to loose

Did you change any gearbox/engine mounts when you did the seal? Some new mounts are harder and pass a lot of vibration.

+1 I assume you mean with engine running in which case your gearbox out may have been ok but perhaps gearbox in lacked some bolts.

Everything torqued and replaced, the vibration when idle I've sorted that it was the bonnet on the bulkhead

I'm taking it to have the wheels balanced Saturday so let's see the outcome

A loose bonnet was making your gear lever wobble about?

I think I was paranoid about the gearstick wobbling Been in my other defender today and it's the same the vibration on tickover was the bonnet on the bulkhead

I had engine / gearbox / car vibration that was solved by replacing the viscous fan. As it was there when I brought the 90 I just thought it was normal...

I cannot remember what I had done to it but the mechanic called me over and showed me it wobbling all over the place - replaced the fan and the 90 is smoother than a cashmere codpiece....

A quick look at it with the engine running with show you it it is the problem - maybe worth a go.

Problem solved was the rear prop I put on (wide angle) from wilsons swapped it back for original and it's so much nicer to drive

Yeah they hadn't been out the props been back to wilsons and they said it was out of balance and there was some play in the Uj so they are sorting it for me
