I have recently acquired an ex MOD 90 (originally NA 2.5D) which has had a defender (not discovery) 200TDi engine fitted, the radiator and intercooler look past there best and it doesn't look the best fit (I suspect a discovery set up has been used. I happen to have a fully restored 300TDi Rad and Intercooler frame. My question is, can I use a new discovery 200TDi radiator and intercooler in the defender 300TDi frame will they fit in the frame and will the frame fit (without sitting too high) on the mounts without cutting these down?

Thanks for any advice on this, such a huge difference in price between the defender and disco versions, yet they look the same

I'm not sure if I can answer your question, but I fitted a 300tdi into my 2.5N/A 110, using a modified Discovery radiator and frame. I cut down my front chassis mounts to get it to fit.
I had to modify the frame by cutting the mounts off the side and welding them onto the top frame to pick up on the 2.5N/A mounts.
Other than the mounts on the side, the Defender and Discovery frames are identical, although the 200 and 300 variants may differ where they are cut out for the rad and inter-cooler hoses.
If your existing radiator is a poor fit the bottom chassis mounts may not have been cut down.

I know for a fact the 200 and 300 intercoolers are interchangable, pipe stubs are at a different angle one end, but will fit.
i would suspect the rads are to, cannot be to hard to find the sizes via google search?

Mate and me stuck a 200 frame into his 87 90, we had to cut the two chassis mounts down as his car still had the loriginal arger wider rad fitted, so no it wont fit unless you cut chassis mounts, not a hard job to do.

I have had a Defender 200tdi in my TD90 for 12 years and in that time have had 200 and 300 intercooler fitted [ Just gone back to a new 200 one I found going cheap ] When I fitted the engine I also used a 200 rad/cooler frame, its the chassis mounts that are cut down for it to fit. At this time I have a 200 discovery rad fitted just a small fiddle with pipes to make fit. As far as I know all frames are the same as in Lynall's post.

Thanks for the useful feedback guys, so effectively, are we saying that the 200TDi disco/defender rads and intercoolers all fit in the 300tdi/200Tdi frame, but that the frame won't fit unless the chassis mounts are lowered?

Useful just to confirm

I seem top remember cutting a bit out of the body to rad top brackets on my 2.5Na 1986 when i converted to 200tdi.

going that end of farm in a bit will take a pic and post it on my return from my solo pheasant mission.

The frame will fit without lowering the chassis mount [ only 3cm ] but you then get problems getting wings and bonnet to sit right.
Have a look at the 90 to disco conversion at top of page, frame fitting is the same for disco or defender engine.

Had to chop a bit out of mine but you can just fit 300 brackets, much easyer to take on and off. Tottot.
