Right people. my rear hub has worn which enables the rear halfshaft to slide out of the diff. When this happens i loose all drive unless i put it in diff lock? is this normal? thought i would be able to get home with just the front wheels driving?

or is that not how they work?

Thanks

Sounds as though you need a replacement hub flange and possibly a new half shaft.

They are cheap and easy to replace, so do them both.

Yep just the hub has lost half its teeth and it has spun a little bit of the splines of the diff end so will do both. Put some welds on the splines hub end for the minute until I get new ones.

Cheers fellas

The hub doesn't have teeth! That's the bit that spins rounf with your wheel on it!

If your spline has gone at the diff end, you will need to drain and flush the diff, otherwise you will have bits of metal floating arond inside!

However, if the flange has lost some teeth and the shaft has worn down, you are preparing yourself for a big bill by welding them together!

The shaft was designed to float in the flange, which is why it has been made as it is!

Don't be a tightwad and spend a few quid now to potentially save you a lot of money later!

I haven't welded the flange to the half shaft? I've put some welds on the splines inside of flange to stop it sliding out to far. It still floats.

And I've only done it to get to work, going to pick a half shaft and flange in a minute.
