Hi LandyZone,

I'm currently looking to install stereo, speakers and aerial to my 1995 CSW 90, and baffeld by the amount of different types of aerials available, both internal and external. Also, not many of them actually seem to look decent, so I was hoping for some advice please on what aerial kit to choose!

I've been considering something like this perhaps (any thoughts?) :
Internal Glass / Windscreen Mount Amlified in Car Aerial Antenna High Quality: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Thanks in advance, much appreciated!

You want nothing external as it will get ripped off the second you go offroad. Believe you can buy an adapter to use the cb ariel to do both.

Hardly! I have been offloading for 30+ years and have never "ripped off" any antenna. That includes an AM/FM radio, CB radio and HAM radio antennas. Buy quality, install it correctly and you should be good to go.

I've only been offroad 5 times and someone has ripped off an ariel or other toy including a jeep that lost his roof rack and around 16 ariels. As you say quality and fitting is important. A £5,99 ariel isn't going to stick around long.

Just got a run of the mill arial and push it down when off road. I had a rubber one and unless you like radio 2 then your buggered as that's all it will pick up.

Are there any particular aerials you'd be able to reccomend please? I intend to get the local land rover garage to fit, but just not sure which to pick? Cheers

As cheap as you like pretty much. I have one of these on the way. £4 including postage

Always sceptical of any of the amplifier ones.

Would try and have a go at fitting it yourself though as the garage will fleece you for an hours labour to fit it!

Sounds like you offroad with idiots. Unless you are participating in a demolition derby the object is to enjoy the day/night WITHOUT destroying nature, your vehicle or yourself. 16 antennas in 5 outings? Really?

No the jeep was a prat that had no idea but yeah 4 cb ariels one on each corner a load of smaller one god knows what they where for. Made the jeep look like a porcupine. And no the ariels where all on the jeep in one go. By the looks of the damage he had put bolts through the roof with nuts and washers that where barely bigger than the holes he had drilled. Didn't come more than 1mm each side of the thread. And as my disco was all but standard I was the one accused of being an idiot attending the meet! I lost my original standard stand up ariel leaving it out while offroad but inexperience led me to slip off a track. One guy lost a mag mount so no surprise there! On guy lost his cb ariel that was mounted on the side when going through Hawthorn bushes.

Holy c**p, this isn't even worth commenting on. I'm sure the moderator would ban me.

As said don't buy a cheap aerial, I got a 5 quid jobby from maplins just to do me in the meantime and I'm lucky if I can pick up more than one station (which funnily enough is usually always radio 2, but that's not so bad as I usually listen to that anyway).

Ive got one of those interior glass ones, reception was fine till it stopped working, not looked yet to see if its the antenna or the head unit (or cabling in between)

I have a rubber duck in the middle of the front slope on my roof ... and I can pick up anything, including R2, R4 and traffic reports.

It doesn't interfere with the VHF transmissions either, as that antenna is mounted in the middle of the roof.

Got mine fitted yesterday and I am no longer a slave to radio 2. Loads of of station choice now just need to remember to lower it for laning.
