Is it possible to convert standard Defender doors to take electric windows and if so how would I do it ?

Yes. Just buy a universal central locking kit off ebay.

You could also but newer defender doors with auto window as stanard.

Whats he is trying to say is that some TD5 and the 07/Puma doors have elctric windows fitted to them.

How the hell they fit it all into the door is beyond me mind you.

I've got doors from an 06 TD5 on my 92 200 TDi, complete with leccy windows - Nice.
