Can it be done?

It should fit as the chassis is the same, I'm looking for a cheap way to add a bit of front protection

Dont know about a defender bumper, but I know the Old range rover ones go on no problem,
Presuming you've take off the plastic bits first

Yup I'm after a better front bumper (there are tubulars on e bay for £95) like a winch bumper (as in flat) but not £250

!!!
