Hi, I'm hoping someone could explain max roof loads on a TD5 90 Defender. I have been told that the max load is around 150kg but I've also been told that owners often fit roof tents which are around 70kg. My confusion is that with 2 people in the tent the load could add up to 220kg easily (including the tent), plus the weight of the roof rack. I'm very new to Defenders, picking up my first one next week! I guess I'm concerned because I've so little understanding of the Defenders structure and i don't want to damage the roof on my first outing. I'm thinking that the max load might vary depending on whether the Defender is stopped or being driven? Any help would be much appreciated.

This one is around 50kg plus the weight of the roof rack and i did some quite challenging tracks a couple of weeks ago without any issues

Presumably you won't have people sleeping in the tent while you're driving around. The recommended maximum loadings are so that the car doesn't lean over too far when cornering and risk capsizing. The actual weight it can support before the gutters break is considerably more. I'm not sure how much, because I've not broken mine yet, but it is a lot.
