Hi, I have my first ever Land Rover :)
Can i ask a few basic questions first please.....What spec is my Landy likely to be ? Also I have been looking for my ECU, most forums said it was under the passenger seat, i removed the passenger seat today and found the battery ;)

Also can my ECU be remapped being Dec 1998? it seems to be very sluggish above about 2500RPM in any gear, does that point to anything obvious ?

It seems in very good condition body wise

Many thanks

JD

My 98 is a TD5 which was the first of the Defender TD5s. If it is a five cylinder it will be a TD5 if not then its likely a 200tdi or 300tdi. Its way too early to be a Puma (Tran**** engine).
ECU is under the drivers seat if a TD5.
YES all TD5s can be remapped but the early ones need a little expertise such as that from Gary at Alive tuning. He did mine and it flys.
Sluggish could be any number of things but first thing is to work out what you have.

Oh and BTW expect to get some stick for not introducing yourself before asking your first questions.

+1 for not introducing yourself:rolleyes::rolleyes:

No piccys, then Im afraid we'll only assume that your really a hairdresser who has bought a new Gaylander :eek::eek::eek:

The reason its slow is the scoop on the air intake for the heater ;) It upsets the finely tuned aero dynamics of the Defender body that took many years in a wind tunnel to design. Its also perfect for catching all the rain and feeding it through into the heater matrix that will eventually rot. Especially as the so called drain valve on the heater intake gets clogged up with ****e and never works. Do your windows steam up when you use the heater?

Is that a 'mod' i need to do then ? ......Defender.....aero dynamics...wind tunnel......Has a defender been anywhere near a wind tunnel in its lifetime ;)

well done for introducing yourself. :lol:

first off, id say its a TD5 as its stamped on the side. :doh: :D Maybe its had an engine change but its alot of work to put a non electric engine in.

Anyway, have you cleaned your MAP and MAF sensors? You could have a collapsed hose if you have a boost issue?
