How will the defender 90 be on long journeys? Im talking a 200 mile round trip...

Or are they too slow to go on motorway etc? Btw, ill be 18 when i buy one so bear in mind ill buy a proper slow one. :D

Ben.

depends what engine, my 90 was not the best with its original TD engine, but after I fitted a 200TDI engine it was a lot better, still a tad noisy but happy to cruise at 70. Happier at 60mph though!

My 110 V8 is much better, sits quite comfortably at 70-80mph, not too loud so conversations arnt a problem, I shudder to think of fuel consumption at that speed though, probably about 12mpg!

My missus prefers the defender for long journeys than the astra. I prefers driving my landy full stop.:)

took my td5 90 to france in may with trailer full of fishing gear (gross wieght 3690kg) and did 450 miles each way got out at dover and at french destination fresh as a daisy
did a 100 + mile triop each way on saturday to south wales same more comfortable and happier than a bloody rabbit hutch on wheels ;)

If it's your girlfriend that you're driving a 200 mile trip to see and you really love her, then you'll drive anything to get you there. It's a 220 mile one way trip for me or a 440 mile round trip for me in my 90 to see my girlfriend in Ipswich, and I do that in a 2.5 N/A with no problems. You'll feel like you've been in a concert all day when you go to bed after the drive what with all the ringing in your ears, but yes it's generally good fun and I wouldn't say that it's uncomfortable.

Put a Disco transfer case in it - sorts out your high range gearing but leaves low the same.

I did that with my 90, and to be honest didnt really notice the difference. I wouldnt say its worth the effort. Only did it as I had to drop the gearbox anyway to replace leaky rear crank seal.

Towed me pikey wagon from Hull to Somerset Nigh on 300 miles, in the td90 & drove from Northampton to Torquay & then from Torquay to Hull in me NA 110. no problems at all. Mind I did have full leather Vauxhall Senator seats in the 110. Yu just have to get used to making a day of it and keeping a nice steady speed. gives you chance to admire the scenery, anorl.
