Has anyone worked on or owned a Defender fitted with a 23L series engine? Any advive would be appriciated, Haynes manual doesn't mention this engine number.

What does the 23L stand for as the Haynes manual only gives an under bonnet view of the 19J and TD5 engines, mentions other engine numbers buy not the 23L? Is the Air Filter, top left handside located in a larger cylinder housing, cleanable and how do you tell if it needs replacing?

19j is turbo diesel diferent engine ,all 300s are basically the same some have egr and some have edc but all the same engine ,air filter is fastened to bracket bolted using 2 of the head bolts on defender end has butterfly nut that unscrews and then another behind it holding filter in change if looks at all dirty ,i usually on cars doing average mileage change all vehicle oils and filters once a year you can get a full service kit that contains all filters etc for £20-£30,often engines are changed ,i thought 23l was edc in disco which may mean its been turned into non edc to fit your car or someones changed number
