I want to instal a snorkel to my Defender 200tdi. My current set up is there is an old pipe about 4 inches in diameter coming from the air filter box but its not connected to anything. Its just loose and pointed towards the vent on the wing(LHS) ie pointing backwards and up
I have looked at snorkels on fleabay and they all seem to just bolt onto the side of the car at the vent and theres just a triangular shaped hole at the bottom of the snorkel. Surely you need to buy some other part to connect the bottom of the snorkel to my loose pipe otherwise you're literaly putting a round pipe into a triangular hole. Can somebody help me with sourcing that additional part please?
Also, I don't want to take any risks with the existing pipe from the airbox, what is it called and where could I get one?
Just need the right parts, ive read up on here need to seal everything up so Im ok on everything else ( I hope !!)
Thanks.

The wings have little covers on the side that the air intake should fit on. Mine is a 1989 90 with a hole on the passenger side. I removed the screws holding the panel on the wing to find a piece on the inside that actually goes into a round hole. Your snorkel uses u clips to seal the snorkel to the wing and pull this internal piece towards it (seal it up well)

It's really fiddly and it also has a drain off valve that I also sealed up just to be safe.

Also regarding the existing pipe as long as it fits you'll be fine. I personally brought some better grade pipe from a local pipe and fittings shop and ran a piece from snorkel to turbo. I don't trust the air box to be water tight

This week I managed to find a nice place to fit the air box which I have and believe is from the donor disco many years ago. Brought a 200tdi air filter, welded the air box where the leak off drain is and found a 80mm to 60mm reducer for the intake to the filter, after all that the filter was too long so I lost my head and took an hammer to it lol.. Ive not had a filter for years. I need to find something small enough and easy enough to fit in line.

Thanks for your responses folks. You were right there was a plastic thingy from the vent into the engine bay but the pipe from the air filter box wasn't connected to it. The pipe by the way is made of some kind of canvas material which I wouldn't trust to keep the water it. Anybody know what it's called and where I could get one?

Also, the shorter pipe from the air filter box to the turbo is taped up with insulation tape so I think I should replace that too. Again suggestions on where to get one of these would be a great help.

Thanks again

Any tubes hose and fittings place do it. I used the pipe with a material on it still and she's water tight. The proper stuff I brought for mine was 20 quid a meter before tax I nearly died!
